Thanksgiving Experiences
I really enjoyed the Thanksgiving weekend. We went to Rolla, Missouri to my host family’s grandparents. They were very sweet. We were about twenty people and I tasted lots of different foods and drinks.

My host family organized a fun get together with family and friends. We ate a wonderful mix of a traditional turkey and cranberry sauce dinner and Asian delicacies which were brought by everyone like a sort of pot luck.
Louise Delaitre
For Thanksgiving I went to a small town called Jay. I was welcomed by the grandparents of my pen pal for two days. We are all enjoying our trip and we are thankful to the teachers from both high schools and to the people who made this trip possible.

We celebrated our first Thanksgiving on Thursday. With my host student we went to a family for lunch with so much food, such as turkey or mashed potatoes with marshmallow, and then we went to another house for dinner. We spent almost all day eating, a really good experience. Then we went to the cinema because it is a tradition for my host family.

The Thanksgiving weekend was awesome but exhausting! I ate a lot on Thanksgiving, the traditional turkey, macaroni, cranberry salad and a huge glass of ice tea. Exhausting but amazing!

This weekend was my first Thanksgiving vacation. I went to Texas to celebrate it with the whole family. It was great and I ate a lot of different meals during the entire day. Then, at midnight, we went to the mall for Black Friday shopping. It was crazy because all the people were running in the shops.

During the weekend I met Mariel’s family and they were very nice. We went to the cinema and we saw Twilight, we played games and we watched TV. I also had the opportunity to eat a lot of delicious things such as pies, macaroni and several burgers.

My host student, Caroline, and I went to an OU game at the Oklahoma stadium. It was a bit like one of the games we went to in Amiens, but bigger, louder and there were more cheerleaders and an orchestra. I loved the game!

I had an awesome weekend. It started with a barbeque at the McKinnis’s house. We had a great time and learned line dancing. I went with my host family to Tulsa. My host’s mother’s aunt was 80 years old this weekend and all her family was meeting there for her surprise birthday party. I met many new people.

On Wednesday we had to prepare for the cooking so we went to Walmart, one of the most popular stores in the US. After that we started to cook the pumpkin pie with my pen pal. It was very funny. The day after was Thanksgiving so everyone was very busy. Of course we had a turkey and we named it Gerard. The food was very good, we ate turkey (Gerard), sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. After eating, with my pen pal and some other people we went to Penn Square Mall for Black Friday. It was about 1 am and it was absolutely crowded.

On the day of Thanksgiving Shelby and I watched Macy’s grand parade. Then we went to her grandmother’s house and we helped her to cook. Around 3 pm the whole family gathered and said a Cherokee prayer. Then we started to eat. There was so much food. The grandmother cooked at least three different kinds of sweet potatoes and five pumpkin pies. At the same time Shelley’s uncle checked the Super Bowl every five minutes!

This Thanksgiving break began Tuesday night with a concert, and on Thursday I had my first Thanksgiving dinner with the Lockett family. I’d never seen so many members of the same family gathered in one room. We ate a lot and it was an occasion to discover one of the biggest traditions of the USA.

For Thanksgiving all my pen pal’s family came in order to celebrate this special day. We ate turkey, cranberry purée and rolls. It was very good. On Black Friday I went shopping with my pen pal and I bought a lot of clothes. I can say that this weekend of Thanksgiving was very busy but it was a great experience.

My host family and I did a lot of things this weekend. We ate a lot mainly because it was Thanksgiving. We visited all the family and, as some members of the family are cowboys, we rode horses. It was a great experience during which I discovered the real American way of life.

This weekend was a really busy one. My family and I did a lot of things. Firstly we had Thanksgiving. My family had invited some Russian friends. We ate a lot of turkey, of course, then potato purée, vegetables with sweet potatoes. As a dessert we had a pumpkin pie. All these things were delicious. It was a great experience.

We spent the weekend all together with my host family. The day after was Black Friday. Many families might wake up early to go shopping but not mine, they are not really into all that craziness. During the weekend we watched the OU-OSU game and the Thunder one. We went to have lunch at an Italian restaurant and ate bagels for breakfast.

Monday, back to school after a week of American traditions. The first thing was Thanksgiving, THE American holiday. We went to the grandparents’ house for lunch. Thanksgiving is really, truly solemn. A solemn way to eat a huge lunch. Yesterday, we went with my host family to a hunting shop. It is a scary place. Weapons everywhere for the whole family. There were weapons for kids. They are false but they have copper bullets. There are also real weapons, and people come as a family to see them … It’s America!
Nicolas Harduin
During Thanksgiving children are out of school for 5 days. AfTer a long Thanksgiving meal, Americans usually watch football games and rest until the end of the day. I went to 2012 Bedlam, the biggest sports event in Oklahoma, which gathers the football teams of the University of Oklahoma (OU) and the Oklahoma State University (OSU). I spent the morning in a typically American church (choir, lights, rock music) and I went to a fire range in the afternoon. Weapons are legal in the USA, especially in Oklahoma.

J’adore ma famille américaine
We arrived in Oklahoma City on Saturday night. I was really tired but my family was very nice and I spoke to Evan, Henry and Audrey for one hour. Then on Saturday Charlie, my host father, took me to a restaurant for breakfast. I ate pancakes that were really good. Then I went shopping with Evan and for dinner we went to a Mexican restaurant. I really love my host family, they are fantastic.

Premiers pas en Amérique
We arrived in
Oklahoma City on Saturday night and the host families were waiting for us with
signs. Americans are really friendly and they want us to feel at home. We
stayed with our host families for the weekend. This was a good opportunity to
get to know the family and to spend time with them. We went to school and it is
totally different from France. Their school day is shorter than ours and their
classes are varied. They can choose what they want to study which is a good
idea, and their teachers are really nice.
